Today’s Lesson: Having a pet in your household is healthier for you especially as you grow older.
The Love Doctor Bernie Siegel says Pet Owners Live Longer and have fewer visits to the doctor. And dog owners live longest of all.
There is no doubt that conclusive studies have shown it’s healthy to have pets in your household. Not surprisingly, dog owners live longer than cat owners.
I am going to make a couple of guesses. Dogs need to be walked a few times a day. This means you’ll be walking a few times a day. Walking is much healthier than sitting. Exercise is one of the big ones and becomes increasingly important as we age. Getting out in the fresh air helps you to feel better. Cats don’t need or want to be walked!
Secondly, dogs are pet-able. Not all dogs but most dogs enjoy a head rub and I’ve met “lapdogs” that weigh sixty pounds. They like to be close to humans and certainly they can express love and affection. This interaction creates healthy brain chemicals for both you and your pooch.
Hope this helps.
