Daily Lessons! Day 9... On Giving and Receiving
Today’s Lesson: It's better to give than receive? Not quite the way it is!
35 I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.
We generally interpret this as it's better to give than receive and when you look at the scripture from the book of Acts of the Apostles, it actually says it is more blessed to give than to receive.
I think in my non-ecclesiastical opinion, that the emphasis is on the good feeling we garner from dishing out random acts of kindness. In a world that is known for extreme selfishness and self-centeredness, we do need to be reminded that we can not only help others through acts of charity, we also help ourselves.
My contrarian view is that you can't give without receiving and you can't receive without giving. It's not a one-way street. Traffic travels in both directions. The easiest example is breathing. We can go weeks without eating, days without drinking but only minutes without breathing. When we breathe in we are receiving life sustaining oxygen. When we breathe out we are emitting carbon dioxide. We don't like carbon dioxide but trees love it! They sequester CO2 and use it in photosynthesis to create sugars, food. In return, they give us an abundance of oxygen.
In business as in personal relations, if we think more about giving than receiving and do a good job off making sure our circle of influence is well-cared for, then you won't suffer. Taking care of others boomerangs back and someone will be thinking of you too.
A baby just born, sucks in his or her first breath before it exhales, we have to have something inside in order to give back. Fill up your tank with good thoughts and be breathe generosity on others.
The world reflects a lot of dog eat dog, but its not true or doesn't have to be. Dogs are social creatures and give love and affection and are more commonly known as man's best friend. Do for others and you won't lack for anything.
Hope this helps.
